Generation XIV

Sir Justinian Isham 4th Bt

1658–1730

Life

His brother, a second Justinian, succeeded him in 1681, and was three times member for Northampton and eleven times for the county. His eight sons and five daughters make a remarkable line even in the pedigree of the Ishams, men with teeming nurseries, but only one son left male issue.?

Sir Justinian Isham of Lamport, the fourth baronet, third son of Sir Justinian Isham the second baronet, was born 11 Aug. 1658, and christened 20 Aug. at Lamport.? He matriculated at Oxford (Christ Church) 4 Dec. 1674, and was a student of Lincoln's Inn in 1677.? He sat as Member for Northampton 1685–7, 1689–90 and 1695–8, and for the county in eleven parliaments from 1698 to 1730.? Dying 13 May 1730, he was buried 19 May at Lamport (M.I.). A will of 5 April 1727 was proved 22 Jan. 1730/1 by Sir Justinian Isham, his son and heir, and in this will he gave directions for the rebuilding of the parsonage of Lamport.?

His wife Elizabeth Turner, only daughter of Sir Edmund Turner of Stoke Rochford, co. Lincoln, knight, was married to him on 16 July 1683 (as appears by her monument), the allegation for the marriage licence being dated 13 July.? She died 22 Aug. 1713, in her forty-seventh year, and was buried 25 Aug. at Lamport,? with a monument of grey marble whose long inscription relates her parentage, praising her for an 'EXCELLENT WOMAN, who much delighting in her closet among her books, learned early how to live and how to die.'?

They had eight sons and six daughters, of whom six sons and four daughters survived their mother.1,2
